Factors to Consider in Layout Design and Output
When preparing the layout for output, especially in traditional plate-making processes, two key factors should be considered:
- Content Adjustment and Consolidation: The content should be adjusted or consolidated to fit within the layout, leaving minimal gaps between different sections. However, it's crucial to ensure that different parts can still be easily separated during cutting. This approach not only saves costs on materials but also reduces the amount of plate material needed during plate-making.

- Print Plate Expansion Considerations: The print plate does not shrink or expand during the plate-making process. However, once the plate is mounted onto the printing cylinder, it will stretch along the direction of the cylinder's circumference. Thus, when designing the layout, the paper feed direction should be taken into account to calculate the expansion rate of the print plate, ensuring that the image does not deform when printed.

The print plate expansion rate can be calculated using the following formula:
To ensure the final printed image remains the same size as the design, the actual dimensions of the design should be multiplied by the expansion rate of the print plate. Typically, the expansion rate is taken as 98%.
