What Are Sealed Bags?

Sealed bags are flexible packaging pouches formed by sealing two or more layers of film material along specific edges using heat, pressure, or adhesive. Unlike bags with mechanical closures (zippers, clips, ties), sealed bags create a permanent, tamper-evident closure that protects the contents from air, moisture, contaminants, and physical damage.

At ZXC Print, sealed bags are manufactured through a complete in-house process: film selection and lamination (if multilayer), surface treatment for print adhesion, flexographic or rotogravure printing, slitting to bag width, and heat sealing to form the final pouch. The sealing process uses controlled temperature, pressure, and dwell time to create hermetic seals that meet specific strength and integrity requirements.

Sealed bags differ from re-closable bags and open-top bags in a fundamental way: once the seal is made, opening requires tearing or cutting the bag material. This permanence is critical for applications requiring tamper evidence, extended shelf life, and contamination prevention: making sealed bags the preferred format for single-use food portions, pharmaceutical blister alternatives, sterile medical packaging, and industrial component protection.

Sealing Methods & Technologies

Seal integrity testing: All sealed bags undergo in-process seal strength testing using tensile pull testing (ASTM F88) and leak testing (dye penetration or vacuum chamber method per ASTM D3078). We maintain seal integrity records for each production batch.

Custom configurations: Any of these base types can be modified with added features: tear notches for easy opening, laser scoring for controlled tear, hang holes, one-way degassing valves for fresh coffee packaging, and resealable zipper strips below the top seal line.

Materials & Film Options

The choice of film material determines the bag's barrier properties, mechanical strength, print quality, and cost. ZXC Print offers single-layer and multilayer film structures depending on the product's protection requirements.

Food-grade certification: All materials used in our sealed bags intended for food contact comply with FDA 21 CFR and EU food contact regulations. Certificates of compliance are available for each material type.

Printing & Customization Options

Sealed bags offer excellent printability, especially when laminate films with an outer PET layer are used. The printed surface is fully customizable for brand identity, product information, and regulatory labelling requirements.

Artwork requirements: Vector-based artwork preferred (AI, EPS, PDF). Minimum 300 DPI for raster elements. 3–5 mm bleed on all printed edges. Text and critical graphics must be at least 5 mm from seal areas to avoid distortion during heat sealing. Free die-line templates provided for accurate artwork layout.
