Pre-Printing Considerations

(1) Small Text and Fine Lines

Small Text and Fine Lines

When preparing files for printing, small text and thin lines should be designed as single-color objects to avoid misregistration during multi-color printing.

  • The minimum line width should be no less than 0.1 mm, otherwise the lines may disappear or look blurry after printing.
  • For text, the minimum recommended height is 1.8 mm for Chinese characters and 1.5 mm for English letters to ensure readability and avoid broken strokes.

(2) Reversed-Out (Knockout) Text

Reversed-Out (Knockout) Text

Extra care is required when designing reversed-out text (white text on a colored background).

  • If the text is small, especially with thin strokes, it should be kept in a single color to prevent blurry edges.
  • Choose fonts that have balanced and solid strokes, such as Rounded Sans Serif, Heiti, or Gothic-style fonts.
  • Avoid using fonts with large stroke contrast like Songti or Old Songti, as their thin horizontal strokes may disappear when reversed out.
  • If you must use such fonts, make sure the minimum text height is 2.5 mm for Chinese characters and 2 mm for English letters to maintain legibility.
