The Imposition Method For Long Signatures

The layout characteristics of long booklets can be described as a hybrid of vertical and horizontal booklet styles.

 - A 6-page long booklet consists of two 3-page sections: one 3-page section starts from Column 1, while the other starts from Column 2.

 - An 8-page long booklet consists of two 4-page sections: similarly, one 4-page section starts from Column 1, and the other starts from Column 2.

 - A 9-page long booklet is composed of a 3-page section starting from Column 2 and a square 6-page section that revolves around the first signature in one or more loops.

 - A 10-page long booklet is roughly made up of two vertical 5-page sections.

Taking the 8-page long booklet as an example, the layout method is illustrated in the figure below.

An 8-page booklet composed of two horizontal 4-page sections: since the horizontal 4-page section should start from Column 1, the first 4-page section (with signature 1) begins at Column 1. The other 4-page section, though also horizontal, can be treated as a vertical 4-page section for memorization purposes, so the second section (with signature 9) is assumed to start from "Column 2."
